Why should I get MLD?
Its a great way to keep your Lymphatic system working optimally and enhance your immune system. Just as we change the oil in our car, its a good way to flush the lymph in our body. It is a wonderful way to calm your nervous system in our busy, stress-filled lives. Perhaps you have had recent surgery and your surgeon has recommended MLD treatments. MLD is another wonderful tool for you to take advantage of during your self-care journey to relieve stress and anxiety through nervous system regulation.
What conditions may it help?
I have worked with clients who have Chronic Lyme Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Migraines, Sinus issues, Allergies, Fibromyalgia, Elers Danlos and Post Operative Edema. They have reported symptom relief, a restful night sleep and a decrease in pain within 24 hours of their first treatment. Everyone is different, so having a conversation before booking your treatment is recommended.
Can I receive MLD if I have cancer or a history of cancer? MLD is nicely suited for people with cancer and cancer histories with guidance from your physician. I am happy to work with your care team to find what is best for you. I can provide Oncology Massage and MLD while you are going through cancer treatment and after based on your health history. A thorough intake is the first step in creating the right care plan for you and continuing conversations along your journey to adjust your treatment each time you visit.
Can I receive MLD if I have Lymphedema? Yes! MLD is an important part of Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) which you will be guided through by your healthcare team. Once you have completed CDT with your Certified Lymphedema Therapist, I can then help you with your ongoing MLD maintenance for Primary or Secondary Lymphedema.
Who should not receive MLD?
There are certain medical conditions that are contraindicated for MLD. This is why a thorough intake is necessary when you book your appointment to make sure MLD is safe for you to receive.
May I combine Massage and MLD?
Yes! I have created hybrid treatments, so you don’t have to choose. They are a wonderful combination with the massage of your choice followed by soothing MLD.
How many sessions will I need?
The best answer is it depends. If you are looking for care after surgery, it may take a few sessions to help alleviate any swelling that may occur. It is best to receive guidance from your doctor or surgeon regarding when to start MLD and how many sessions may be best for your personal recovery. It is also best to a have a few treatments on consecutive days or a few in one week in order to reduce edema efficiently.

ABOUT VODDER STYLE MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
Vodder style Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle form of bodywork that works to stimulate and maintain a healthy Lymphatic system. This treatment was originally developed by Emil and Estrid Vodder in Paris in 1936.
MLD uses light pressure to gently stretch the skin, which promotes absorption of fluid from superficial tissues and the transport of Lymph fluid through superficial and deep vessels. This helps the body reduce edema, move cellular debris and maintain a healthy, functioning immune system.
MLD is very gentle and works exclusively on the lymphatic system, unlike a massage, which targets muscle and deeper facial tissue. The treatment is systematic, rhythmic, repetitive and deeply relaxing, and taps into your nervous system to turn off “fight or flight” mode.
After receiving just one treatment, my clients have reported more restful sleep, decreased pain and reduction in post-surgical edema.
I am extremely grateful I was able to learn the Vodder method through the internationally recognized Klose Training. This was one of the most challenging and rewarding classes of my massage career.
I would highly recommend MLD treatments with Carol.
I personally had 2 treatments with her and not only did it feel
relaxing and calming during the session, the results seemed
amazing to me! I saw Carol twice post foot surgery.
The first time I went, my foot was extremely swollen;
the very next day after seeing her, the swelling went down
considerably and again after the second treatment.
The evening after each treatment, I felt extremely
relaxed and tired...I had to go to bed earlier than normal because
I was so tired. I slept soundly and deeply (unlike my normal)
and woke up fully rested! I felt great!
